We’re proud to announce that 2G Design and Build has been shortlisted in the Hospitality Design category at the Creative Retail Awards 2025, for our work on Albatross Death Cult, an omakase-style restaurant in Birmingham that pushes the boundaries of hospitality design.

Housed in a Grade II listed building, Albatross Death Cult is a 14-seat restaurant offering a single sitting per service and an immersive, chef-led experience around a monolithic stainless-steel counter. It’s a project that demanded exceptional attention to detail, from both a design and delivery perspective, blending stripped-back industrial aesthetics with moments of theatrical precision.
The brief was clear: create a space that feels as intense and curated as the dining experience itself. We embraced the challenge by exposing the character of the building, celebrating raw brick, concrete and steel while introducing refined lighting and textural contrast to soften the minimalism. The entire design and fit-out was delivered in just two weeks.

The Creative Retail Awards are a benchmark for innovation across commercial interiors – recognising not just aesthetic impact, but the way design enhances experience, storytelling and brand. To be shortlisted is a real honour and a reflection of the collaboration and creativity that went into the project.
We’ll find out if we’ve been lucky enough to win at the awards ceremony in September, but for now we’re delighted to be recognised alongside such a strong shortlist.
Thank you to our brilliant in-house team for their meticulous execution, and to the team behind Albatross Death Cult for trusting us with such a bold concept.
