Yakinori, a well-established restaurant brand, tasked 2G Design and Build with updating their flagship branch ahead of its 10-year anniversary. The goal was to modernise the space and develop a design that supports Yakinori’s strategic ambition to grow as a franchise. The new look needed to be smart and unique while remaining accessible to the diverse clientele they currently serve and hope to attract.
The Brief
The client required a thoughtful refresh of their flagship location to celebrate its milestone anniversary. The redesign had to align with Yakinori’s existing brand style guidelines, delivering a significant uplift that reflects the fun, unpretentious spirit of the brand. The space also needed improvements to the furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) to enhance the customer journey, encourage longer stays, and better accommodate delivery and takeaway services with minimal disruption to sit-in guests.
The Challenge
Balancing the playful and relaxed brand identity with a more polished and contemporary aesthetic was critical. The venue serves a wide range of customers spanning different ages and demographics, so the design needed to appeal broadly without losing the unique character of Yakinori. Additionally, the layout had to carefully separate delivery/takeaway operations from dine-in areas to prevent operational clashes and improve flow.
Our Solution
We delivered a design refresh that maintained Yakinori’s distinctive, approachable vibe while elevating the overall atmosphere to match its growth ambitions. The FF&E selection focused on comfort and style, introducing seating that encourages guests to linger. The layout was reconfigured to create a clear, dedicated zone for delivery and takeaway orders, improving operational efficiency and customer experience. Throughout, the design balanced fun and sophistication, integrating brand elements with local context to make the space inviting for all customers.
The result is a fresh, lively venue that celebrates 10 years of Yakinori in Selly Oak, while positioning the brand for successful franchise expansion.
